A-2: Mortgage Banking
This session will provide an overview of the special tax rules applicable to mortgage banking and focus on the current changes in the market place and the tax implications of such. Topics covered will include the tax implications of FAS 157/159 and Troubled Debt restructuring, as well as recovery of basis, hedging, character and mark to market with regard to servicing rights. Other topics include discussions of solutions to accelerate recovery of basis, accounting method changes, and securitizations.

C-3: FIN 48 – Year Two , What ’s New ?
This session will focus primarily on lessons learned from the 2007 adoption by public companies of FASB Interpretation No. 48 - Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes, as well as discuss any new developments occurring during 2008. We will review select public company annual and quarterly disclosures, identifying
similarities, differences and areas where interpretation may still vary. The U.S. Tax Court’s ruling in PSB Holdings, Inc. v. Commissioner, and the Internal Revenue Service’s subsequent reaction to same, provides an opportunity to discuss the impact of new information on management’s judgments and related disclosures. Struggles with practical application issues, such as what constitutes adequate documentation and determining what is a “significant change” will be explored. Private companies facing FIN 48 adoption in 2008 will benefit from hearing the experience of their public counterparts.
